Producing plays that will interest directors and theatre companies is important to many playwrights. However, it is always not easy to identify the factors that draw directors and theatre companies to a new play.
As TheatreWorks continues to nurture new pools of Singapore playwrights for the 13th year through The Writers’ Lab*, the company is organizing a panel discussion that aims to enlighten playwrights on what directors look out for in a new play. It will also provide insights into what works for theatre companies, and what circumstances are plays staged.
The Writers’ Lab has brought together a panel of highly established theatre industry leaders to share their views:
Ivan Heng: Artistic Director, W!ld Rice
Christian Huber: Artistic Director, Luna-id
Gaurav Kripalani: Artistic Director / Managing Director,
Singapore Repertory Theatre
Desmond Sim: Playwright and Associate Artistic Director, Action Theatre
Tan Tarn How: Playwright and Associate Artistic Director, TheatreWorks
Each member of the panel will spend 10 minutes on the topic at hand, followed by an hour-long Q and A session in which aspiring playwrights can raise questions and share their views.
This event is open to anyone who aspires to have their plays produced, or would be interested to know what the future holds for Singapore plays and playwrights. We invite all to come.
Admission is free.
