Artistic Director Ong Keng Sen received the prestigious Cultural
Medallion (Theatre). He is the first artist to have received both the
Young Artist Award (1992) and the Cultural Medallion (2003).

TheatreWorks launched its new compendium '5 Under 25: Prize-winning Plays from The Writers' Lab' as well as announce
the results of 2003's 24-Hour
Playwriting Competition and the Singapore
Young Dramatists Award. The event was followed by an
evening of dramatised reading of the winning plays on 20 Sep, opened

TheatreWorks Education & Outreach unit announces its E
& O 2004 season with an open house for teachers and corporate partners.
Enriching programmes for schools, creative training workshops for teachers
and drama facilitators, fun and educational expeditions to other Asian countries,
and innovative collaborations with institutions and corporations are revealed.
Guests are treated to preview of 2 new plays specially developed for young
people.

for Singapore Awards 2003 for his artistic excellence in the development
of theatre, both in the local context and across cultures, and for his attainment
of high international esteem for his works.

The arts community has written a letter Art
is ultimately a form of 'remaking', which was published in the Straits
Times forum on 24 July 2003, in response to Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's calls
for "Community Champions" to adopt the recommendations made by the Remaking
Singapore Committee ("Now a search for 'remaking' champions"; ST, July 3);
and as a follow up to The Arts Community Proposal against censorship in Singapore submitted to
the Censorship Review Committee last year

The 24-Hour Playwriting
Competition 2003 at the Singapore Turf Club saw 48 playwrights typing
and scribbling furiously away amidst the thunderous galloping of the horses
and the rousing cheers of the racing fans. Well-known actress, comedian
Abigail Chay leads the entourage as Gamemaster to dish our the creative

TheatreWorks announces its offering for the Singapore Arts Festival 2003.
Entitled The
Global Soul – the Buddha project, this new international production
is conceived and directed by Ong Keng Sen. A preview will be held in Berlin
from 30 May – 1 June, followed by its world premiere in Singapore at the
Victoria Theatre from 19 – 21 June.
